ST. STEPHEN’S MINISTRIES
MISSION OUTREACH:
a group of members who select and promote projects that help the community beyond our congregation. We currently are active in:
- HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Several times a year we designate income from a particular event or series of weeks to go to the Central Valley Habitat for Humanity program. A typical project: in 2004 we collected and assemble 20 large buckets of cleaning supplies and materials and sent them to Pennsylvania for use by victims of storms and flooding.
- FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY: On the four Sundays at the end of Pentecost Season, we collect canned, boxed, and dried foods to go to needy local families and the Blue Ridge Food Bank.
- PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE: Volunteers go to Muhlenberg Lutheran Church here in the city, where they interview persons in need of financial support for medical travel, heating expenses, emergency rent supplements, etc. St. Stephn’s regularly gives a portion of our charity budget to this organization.
- ANNUAL YARD SALE: Every year ...usually in August... our congregation holds a BIG BIG yard sale ( in our basement! ) to which the public is invited on a Saturday. Significant funds are raised and go into our Mission Outreach budget for special projects and events which benefit the needy. This year's sale, just completed, was VERY successful!
