MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 28, 2008, SHENANDOAH ASSOCIATION COUNCIL MEETING CONFERENCE CALL

 

Present on the conference call were:  Jim Bundy, Bob Edwards, Melinda Loeblich, Greg Griffey, Richard Vaught, and Barbara Rhodes.

 

1.  2009 Annual Conference Meeting

             - Richard gave an update that he had contacted John Barton of the Virginia          Council of Churches to participate in the conference and he agreed to do so.

            -  The CAC Task Force will meet on Saturday, September 13 beginning at 10:00    and going into mid-afternoon.  The place will be determined either at Centenary,           Winchester or the conference office at a later date.  Melinda will check with           Arnetta to determine if someone is coming from New Jersey or not.  Those             attending the meeting should be David Roe, worship and music leader, Robert      Frye, Melinda Loeblich, chairperson, Barbara Rhodes and Richard Vaught.

 

2.  Shenandoah Association Annual Fall Meeting

            - The schedule for the meeting will be as follows:

                        3:30 - 4:00 -    Registration

                        4:00 - 4:05 -   Welcome and Introductions

                        4:05 - 5:30 -   Worship and Communion (Rev. Graylan Hagler will be                                                         preaching and Marge and Adair will be planning worship)

                                                Theme:  Non-Violence in a Violent World

                        5:30 - 6:00 -   Response to the sermon (Question and Answer Period)

                        6:00 - 6:45 -   Dinner

                        6:45 - ???? -   Business Meeting

                                               + Greeting from Rev. John Deckenback

                                               + Constitution

                                               + Budget

 

3.  Small Church Grant  - Melinda reported she had not heard yet as to whether an            association could summit a request.  We have until October 1 to submit our        request if they are willing to accept it.

 

4.  Report from Richard

            Things have been running smooth this summer in our association.

 

5.  Boundary Training will probably be held during the second week of October on a         Tuesday and Wednesday.  This has not been confirmed yet.

 

6.  Audit has not been completed yet.  Marilyn has taken care of student-in-care monies    to the seminary.

 

7.  Jim said he would continue to represent us at the Virginia Council of Churches as he    is available for their meetings.  If someone else would like to do it, they can but             he is willing to continue.  We support his decision to continue.

 

Our next meeting will be Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s UCC, Harrisonburg.  We may alternate months with conference calls and meetings in person.
